Teaching Your Kids at Home

Comparing children who go to school outside the home to those children who are homeschooled, you find that there are more life lessons learned at home than are being taught in school. Kids in school learn a lot of academics, they know their maths, they know their sciences and all other subjects but life lessons are nowhere to be found.

The reality is that most schools don't teach life lessons in school so when they graduate and go out into the world, they are not able to deal with daily life as a grown up. Homeschooling parents are privileges to be able to teach life lessons to their children aside from their regular subjects.

Here are some examples of life lessons that you can teach your children at home.

In home economics, we learn how to cook and about nutrition which is not really enough to prepare one for the real life outside of school. It is the privilege of homeschooling parents to be able to teach their children how to cook and clean and use these lessons in real life.

Letting children clean as they go produces a great habit for children. Clearing up should be a part of every lesson so that it becomes a habit for them to clean as they go.

Budgeting should also be taught at home. The reason why many adults get into financial trouble is that they have never been taught to budget. Schools teach math which includes money but students are never taught about budgeting. This is where the problem lies.

There are many activities that you can do with your children to teach them how to budget. Play shopping using play money can be used to teach budgeting. Going to a child friendly store like Anthill shop N play is a great place to teach budgeting. Here you can give them a budget each and ask them to buy some items in that store. A great way to learn budgeting in a real life situation is by giving them a monthly allowance. They can use it to pay for candies, toys, or activities they want to do.

Taking care of self is seldom taught in school but what they learn is to eat healthy foods and to be active. We can see many adults not knowing how to take care of themselves because they were never taught as children to do so.

To help calm their minds and relax them, you can teach them meditation. They can use deep breathing to reduce feelings of stress and anxiety. It is important that children learn to express their feelings in many different ways like art and other means.

As a homeschooling parents you have the opportunity to educate your children on these things. They will have better chances of a happier and more successful future.
